Redwood Zendo is a community Soto Zen practice center in Redwood City, California under the guidance of Shohaku Okumura Roshi, abbot of Sanshin Zen Community in Bloomington, Indiana. It is managed locally by Jim Biggs, Okumura Roshi’s disciple.
Okumura Roshi is a preeminent Soto Zen priest and respected translator of the thirteenth-century Japanese Zen master, Eihei Dogen Zenji.
Redwood Zendo exists to provide intensive practice of zazen in the style of Kosho Uchiyama-roshi, informed by thorough study of Dogen Zenji’s teachings. We offer daily zazen as well as monthly one-day and multi-day retreats. Activities are open to anyone with a sincere interest in the practice of Zen.
